Middaugh, Widney Win XTERRA Mountain Championships
Josiah Middaugh (USA) and Chantell Widney (CAN) captured the XTERRA Mountain Championship at Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colo. Saturday. It’s the third time in four years Middaugh has won the race, while it’s the first major XTERRA victory for Widney.

Another breakout performance was had by Alex Modestou, yet another rookie pro, who won the amateur race here last year (ninth overall) and finished fifth this season.

Middaugh, Garrard XTERRA Mountain Champs Favorites
The mountain men are out in full force for tomorrow’s XTERRA Mountain Championship, led by Josiah Middaugh and a strong contingent of Colorado’s finest elite triathletes. The top five from this race last year were all from Colorado, and all five are back on the start list.  Middaugh, who won it for the second-time in three years last season, is a hometown favorite who helped design the course for the inaugural championship race at Beaver Creek Resort back in 2009.

Other racers to keep an eye on include Ryan Petry, a rookie pro from Arizona who just recently graduated from college and moved to Boulder; and rookie pro Alex Modestou from Washington DC who was ninth overall (top amateur) here last year and has been in town for a month training and preparing for the race.

Middaugh, Duffy win XTERRA Southeast Championship
Josiah Middaugh and Flora Duffy captured the ninth annual XTERRA Southeast Championship race at Oak Mountain State Park in Shelby County, Alabama amidst some wacky weather conditions that went from cool and cloudy to torrential downpours to bright sunshine over the course of three hours.

Also of note, last year’s amateur ENVE Performer-of-the-Year Alex Modestou who was forced to miss Nationals due to illness, made his elite debut and finished 11th – a result worthy of celebration for the adversity he has overcome to return to this level of fitness.

ENVE Performers of the Year
ENVE Composites – makers of incredible wheels and components produced by riders, for riders – has its manufacturing facility and test lab in Ogden, Utah. For the second straight year they sponsored XTERRA’s ENVE Performer of the Year award, which is presented at the Night of Champions dinner on the eve of the XTERRA USA Championship just a few blocks from their headquarters. Just one racer out of the amazing collection of XTERRA amateur racers was a tough task, so ENVE was kind enough to give us some wiggle room this year and let us pick two – each awarded a sweet trophy and wheel set of their choice. The men’s winner is Alex Modestou… Read More
